Southgate Children's Academy was officially established in August 2002. Prior to that date, the school operated for about five years as Babies Oh My!

Our oldest child started attending Babies Oh My! when it first opened, as a brand new facility in the budding Cool Springs area, in March 1996. It is hard to imagine it now, but the Cool Springs Galleria opened in August 1991 and prior to that, very few businesses or restaurants existed in the area, and the land had historically been vast farmland. The mall opening in 1991 was the beginning of tremendous growth in the Williamson county area, led by GM moving their Saturn production plant in late 1990 to Spring Hill, just a tiny country town at the time. As a south Nashville native, who spent a lot of time in Franklin at my aunt and uncle's house, it's surprising even to me that Spring Hill was a town I had never heard of -until GM made their major announcement. Commonly heard: "They are coming to Springfield??" "No, Spring HILL, south of Nashville. SpringFIELD is north of Nashville". Oh, ok, never heard of it.

I worked at the time as the Director of Physician Services for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) on West End. My office was at the beautiful Centennial Medical Center, but I was responsible for physician recruitment and medical staff development for all of the HCA hospitals in the region. Like all new parents, the choice of childcare was a huge decision, and we grew to love our baby's new school, the staff, and the families we became friends with there, some still our close friends over 20 years later. Being a working parent always comes with mixed emotions, and no two days are the same. Having a childcare facility that your child is thriving at is everything, so much that when we had our second child and I decided to resign from my very demanding job, we kept Patrick at the school 3 days per week, where he continued to enjoy his friends and lots of activities.

When the former owner divorced and moved to Florida, we eventually bought the building, a process that took over a year. We had a strong desire to see the school we loved continue operations, and serve an important and meaningful need in the community. "Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans" applies here, because I never thought I would be the mother of four children, much less own and operate a childcare facility. Yet both have been tremendous blessings! Our desire is to create a homey setting where each child is well known and loved, learning through play.

Our oldest child will graduate in May 2018 with an accounting degree from UT. It has been 22 years since we first walked in the doors, at what is now SCA, as brand new parents. As I meet each young family at SCA, I reflect every day on how quickly the time has passed and think "the days were long but the years flew by".

The Dooleys are the parents of four children (two boys, two girls), ages 22, 20, 17, 14. We have three dogs, live in Franklin and enjoy our children's schools, sporting events, many friends, extended family in the area, cycling, anything outside, the Harpeth river and woods behind our home, Auburn football, our church, and love everything about our wonderful and unique community! Jamie Dooley has a BS in Hospital Management from Auburn University. John Dooley has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University, MS in Occupational Safety and Health and works for Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). He has also served in the Army National Guard and Reserves, retirement May 2018 after 30 years' service, with the rank of Colonel.
