In honor of Read Across America, we are celebrating with LOTS of reading this month at SCA! Here is a list of some of our staff favorites!

Mrs. Kendra (Assistant Director): “I love all of the ‘Little Critter’ books by Mercer Mayer. I have fond memories of reading these with my mother and trying to find the hidden spider on every page!”

Ms. Brittney (Resource Teacher): “My favorite children’s book is ‘Chicka Chicka Boom Boom’ by Bill Martin. My teachers used to read it to me all the time when I was in preschool!”

Ms. Wendy (Toddler 2 Teacher and Department Coordinator): “’Whoever You Are’ by Mem Fox is a fabulous book because it shows children from around the world and incorporates diversity well! It’s a Reading Rainbow classic!”

Ms. Sadaf (Resource Teacher): “’The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle is a great learning tool!”

Ms. Kellyn (Toddler 1 Teacher): “’Goodnight Moon’ by Margaret Wise Brown is a favorite for the children in my room. It’s a great nap time book and is applicable for all types of leaners!”

Ms. Amy (Preschool 3’s Teacher): “The children in my room really like ‘Go Away Big Green Monster’ by Ed Emberly because it’s really engaging for my 3 year olds and helps them tackle fear.”

Ms. Kaycee (Infant Teacher): “My babies love the ‘Busy Farm’ book we got from our Scholastic Book Fair because it has lots of animal sounds!”

Ms. Kelly (Pre-K Teacher): “I have a couple favorites. ‘One’ by Kathryn Otoshi is wonderful because it is a simple way to teach children about bullying. ‘Chrysanthemum’ by Kevin Henkes is helps express how important and unique each person’s name is!”

Ms. Tanya (Toddler 2 Teacher): “’Love You Forever’ by Robert Munsch means so much to me personally because of the reason it was written. I will forever cherish the opportunity to read it to my 2 year old daughter, Livi!”

Ms. Hannah (Chef): “’Miss Suzy’ by Miriam Young because I was fascinated by the character’s sense of style!”

Ms. Kourtney (Infant Teacher and Department Coordinator):  “I personally loved the ‘Amelia Bedelia’ books, but I love all the Pete the Cat books too!”

Ms. Elizabeth (Preschool 3’s Teacher): “I really like ‘The Giving Tree’ by Shel Silverstein because it’s a good life lesson. I have treasured memories of sitting on my granny’s lap and listening to her read it to me!”

Ms. Helen (Resource Teacher): “The toddlers really like ‘Hello Sun’ by Dayle Ann Dodds because it’s an interactive way to teach appropriate weather clothing!”

Mrs. Jamie (Owner): “I have so many favorites, but I especially love the ‘If You Give a Mouse a Muffin’ series, ‘Harry The Dirty Dog’ by Gene Zion, and ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak.”
